After being gifted a beautiful set of crystal when I got married, I became one of those people who only bring out the “nice” stuff for special occasions. Sure, pieces can be replaced, and the memories made while using them will last forever, but you can never get back the time it takes to wash every piece by hand. That is exactly what keeps mine locked up in the china cabinet.

That is until now. The renowned, family-owned, Italian appliance brand SMEG just released its newest line of dishwashers, and it might change how I use (and wash) my glassware forever, right in time for the holiday season.

Why we love it

Allows delicate stemware to be washed with care, even on the bottom rack! The SMEG dishwasher comes with flexible tines that hold glassware securely in place. It also comes with a dedicated location for a decanter.

Multiload system

Designed for flexibility, this system adapts to large pots and pans, oversized bottles, and even oven trays. It also includes an added support rack for smaller, delicate items, like espresso cups.

Planetarium Wash System

A double motion spray arm with a spiralizing directional wash ensures water sprays and reaches every surface in a 360° sweep, ensuring your dishes come out sparkling.

DryAssist+

This energy-efficient feature enhances the drying performance by automatically opening the dishwasher door at the end of the cycle for a fresh, spot-free finish. It’s also a good sign to empty the dishwasher!

A Model for every kitchen

The collection includes seven different models, including an ADA-compliant option.

SMEG’s new dishwasher line, featuring the WinePro accessory, starts at $1399 and is available at major retailers and at smegusa.com.

Maybe it’s time to let those beautiful glasses out of hiding and toast to new technology that keeps up with your best stemware.

EV charging’s coming to your town: you still need it at home
Young woman walking to EV with charging cord

As things stand today, the ownership of an electric vehicle implies a paradigm shift in thinking regarding our car’s energy replenishment habits. Driving an EV means that the conveniently quick stop at the service station we are used to is replaced by hours-long charging sessions, with basically the same results regarding the amount of range acquired. However, the savings, as well as the benefits for the environment, are both undeniable and substantial.

There are several ongoing efforts currently in the United States to create an infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, which together with plug-in hybrid cars, that also require charging, should account for half of the new automobiles sold in the United States by 2030 according to the federal government. But even with all of these efforts, you still need an EV adapter at home if you plan to own an electric vehicle.

Toyota is finally making an EV truck you’ll actually want to buy

While showing the world 15 Toyota- and Lexus-branded electric vehicle prototypes in various stages of development, this week Toyota announced a global investment of $70 billion in the electrification of its vehicle lineup. During the massive presentation, it was clear that the star of the event was the shining white pickup truck, labeled simply as “Pickup EV.” It's essentially an all-electric Tacoma.

Or at least as far as the U.S. market was concerned. America’s insatiable hunger for crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks has virtually extinguished the market for low-volume vehicles in the non-premium market, steering most efforts in electrification toward the most popular segments. Zero emissions pickup trucks are only enhancing the appeal of the segment, as demonstrated by the fact that 70 percent of the more than 200,000 reservations for the Ford F-150 Lightning, Ford's full-size electric truck, come from customers who have never bought a pickup before.
