Remodeling any room in your house is all about the budget. Knowing your budget before you start can help you determine where you can spend the money and where you need to save. We can help you figure out if the laundry room remodel costs are within your budget. Let’s put this situation on ‘gentle’ and see what comes out.

The plumbing

It can cost thousands and thousands of dollars to move the lines and all parts needed physically. If you have no choice, be prepared to spend at least $2,000-$2,500 on this. Don’t forget to tack on what it will cost the plumber, which could be up to another $1,500.

That’s a lot of money. If it is possible to renovate where your washer and dryer are currently located, that will be your best bet. The cost to remodel your laundry room will add up quickly, so if you can avoid moving the main lines, you will save yourself a lot of time and money. not to mention the possibility of other issues arising if you do end up moving the lines.

Cabinets

If you have the room for cabinets in your laundry space, they add great storage space for detergents, stain removers, etc. Even if your laundry room is small, try to fit at least two cabinets. Basic cabinets are generally around $100 per linear foot, but more ornate or custom cabinets can come in at around $500 to $700 per linear foot. If that price seems a little steep, try these stock cabinets. They might need a stain or a fresh coat of paint, but for the price, they’re a steal:

Flooring

If there is anywhere you can save some cash; it’s the floors. You will want to ensure that your flooring is water-resistant in case of an accident or water leakage, but even so, CEO and founder of Kukun, Raf Howery says one place you can save a lot of money is flooring, the new Luxury Vinyl Tiles are synthetic flooring that comes in hundreds of colors and patterns, all for a material cost of $2 to $5 per square foot.

We found some for even less at Menards, but be sure you check out the tile in person as things tend to look very different online. These tiles are easy to install yourself, so you don’t have to hire a professional. That seems like a win-win for us. It could take a while to browse through them all before you find one you like, so you better get started!

The appliances

Appliances are the big-ticket items when remodeling a laundry room. In our honest opinion, this is where you should splurge. You will have these appliances for a long time, and they will be the focal point and main attraction of the room.

If you don’t need a new washer or dryer, you definitely don’t need to spend the money. But if what prompted the whole remodel was that your set was starting to give out, then let’s go big. Expect to spend at least $1,000 for a set. And that’s the cheap, basic, no bells or whistles set. For a top-of-the-line, so-pretty-you-can’t-take-your-eyes-off-them set, you’ll be looking at closer to $3,000-$4,000. We already fell in love with this set from Best Buy. It would probably take us some time to learn how to use them, but they would be worth every penny.

Other perks

If you have space and want a sink, Raf Howery says those “can cost anywhere from $50 to $700+ depending on the size, brand, and material it is made out of.” He goes into further detail, saying

for example, plastic sinks are often free-standing, and range between $50 and $250, where stainless steel sinks that are mounted on your counter have a wide range of costs, from $120 to $500. Another popular option is Acrylic sinks, which range between $100 and $700.

If you want to add a countertop, you can spend as little as $50 or up to $1,000, depending on the material. Home Depot has some affordable options that still look chic.

Like other rooms in your home, the cost of remodeling a laundry room can fluctuate depending on the materials you use. Raf says the basic cost to renovate a laundry room “is between $2,000 and $10,000.”

One final tip from Howery:

One way to approach your budgeting process is to make a list of the three features that are most important to you and create a budget for the renovation in order of priority/must-haves.

Make a list, know your budget, and have fun renovating your laundry room. Who knows, maybe you will even start looking forward to laundry day!

If you're short on space, combining your bathroom and laundry is an easy way to squeeze the most out of one room. Plus, for many of us, finding more space in our home for a home office or gym is a much-needed win.

You could hire a designer to map out exactly what options you have available in a new build, but if you're working with an already-established bathroom and need to add the laundry in, here are a few ideas to get your imagination going.
