Hawkins/Futura Q41 Nonstick Flat Dosa Tava/Griddle

The Dosa Tava is designed with just the right curvature and thickness to give you the best cooking results when making dosa (rice and gram pancakes). The flange, which firmly attaches the handle with strong stainless steel rivets, is uniquely designed to not interfere with the cooking surface and to hence maximise the cooking area, allowing you to make a very large dosa, or several uttapam or cutlets at one time. The 4.88 mm extra thick heavy gauge metal ensures fast and even heat conduction and retains heat well. The Dosa Tava Instruction Manual has 11 tested recipes for the Dosa Tava, including four varieties of dosa, uttapam, cutlets and rolls. The Dosa Tava is suitable for domestic gas and radiant electric cooktops.

My old flat pan (Comal) used for warming up tortillas and making some other things finally got replaced by this new one. I looked long and hard and finally settled on this one. I'm glad I did some looking at the reviews before buying another. There are so many options, and even some that pose using the term 'Comal'. But they are not. This product was not cheap aluminum piece of metal coated with Teflon. It is very solid and distributes heat really well. I use it now all the time and love that I don’t see how it can possibly warp…ever. Looking forward to many years of usage. Excellent.

I've had no luck in cooking dosas on a large cast iron skillet. I wasn't really looking for a tava until I found this, at substantial discount, while trolling Warehouse Deals. It comes with a wooden spatula, a scrubber and a recipe book. I'm a rank amateur when it comes to dosas , though it's a favourite snack I've seen made and eaten many times in India. This tava does an excellent job of cooking my messy efforts and the dosa slides right off when crisp. Practise , practise!

This is a simple, quality product. Coincidentally, I have a Hawkins stainless steel pressure cooker which I used and brought home from India 21 years ago. It's been in constant use since then and is still on its original lid seal, so I'm confident in the quality of Hawkins products.
