These are wonderful espresso spoons. They are made of 18/10 stainless steel, and as such they won't rust due to repeated exposure to acidic coffee. I was wondering before they arrived if they might be flimsy and easily bent, but the spoons turned out to be quite sturdy and durable. The spoons have a nice, highly reflective finish, and the handle is a little over 3" long, making the spoon about 4" long total. Their elegant, utilitarian look is striking, a kind of modernist statement when paired with my classic white espresso cups. I was a bit worried before purchasing that the end of the handle would be too sharp and thus uncomfortable to hold, but the end of the handle is actually rounded and does not hurt the hand. Keep in mind that at around 4" long, you will not be able to hold these in the palm of your hand - they are meant to be held in the fingers as you stir espresso - or use them in large mugs or bowls without their falling into the mugs' / bowls' contents. They are not meant for feeding babies, as the handle is simply too short; nor are they meant for eating yoghurt, ice cream, et cetera, for the spoon bowl is too small. These spoons are designed specifically for use with espresso, and they tackle that job beautifully.

I found one of these in a college dining hall; evidently someone had returned it there, thinking it was a dining hall spoon, which it was not. Realizing what I had stumbled across, I grabbed a grapefruit from the dining hall fruit bowl and tested out my fortuitous find. I quickly pocketed the spoon and exited the dining hall, my life forever changed. I walked into the dining hall that day a knife man. I walked out a spoon man.

For the next two years, I kept a weather eye out for more of them. With no markings on it, I had precious little to go on. Google image searches of grapefruit spoons turned up hopeless low-res stock photos and local cutlery stores only sold cheaply-made stamped grapefruit spoons. Meanwhile, my one dining hall find was the most coveted piece of flatware in the house. Once I thought I had lost it in a move, and I actually broke into my old apartment to retrieve it.

Finally, I found its likeness at a boutique a thousand miles from my home, selling for nearly the price of the trip itself. I texted the information to myself, bid the shopkeep good day, and found these on Amazon. Now I have five of them and am very content.

Practically Perfect Long-Handled Spoons

We love these long-handled spoons and use them for a variety of purposes: ice cream, floats, iced tea, honey, jelly/jam, etc. I've purchase four sets so far – three for my home, and one set as a gift for someone who used one at my house and loved it. We treat them terribly, frequently leaving them soaking in bowls of water for hours on end and ALWAYS washing them in the dishwasher with incredibly hard water. And yet they remain perfect. No rust. No stains. The first eight we bought are almost five years old, and they still look like new, even though we abuse them. As long as they keep making these spoons, I'll keep buying them.

One note: The price on this listing fluctuates dramatically. I try to snag them when the price is low, but they're still worth it even at the higher price.

I did not purchased these for espresso, I actually purchased them to use as a more hygienic way to get beauty products from the jar. I try to buy what I can in squeeze or pump dispensing bottles, but there are a couple of products I love that only come in a jar. Aside from hating to get product under my fingernail when scooping out with a finger, it also allows germs and microbes from my hand to get into the product. I stumbled across these when I was looking for plastic paddles to replace one I had recently snapped in two. At two bucks each, I figured I could afford to "upgrade" from plastic to stainless steel. My only issue is that I would have preferred a smooth, more rounded handle and the option to get a satin or brushed finish (so fingerprints wouldn't show) on the handle. I did search around and did not find a similar product from any other manufacturer so it was this one or nothing. They are working well for me and I am happy I accidentally found them.

There's not a lot that can be said about spoons. These are very well made, sturdy, and have nice clean, simple lines. They refer to them as ice cream spoons; I suppose it is designed for getting into the bottom of those old fashioned glass sundae cups- or maybe for getting down into the bottom of the Haagen Dazs; even though they appear slim, they feel strong enough that there should be no spoon-bending when getting the last couple bites. For all intents and purposes they also are great iced tea spoons. I love them because a lot of my coffee cups/mugs are tall, and these are perfect for being able to reach all the way to the bottom of the cup and stir effectively without getting the tips of my fingers in the hot coffee. They're also great for getting everything from the bottom of jars- I can get the last of the tartar sauce where a serving spoon wouldn't fit and a knife wouldn't be effective. Spoons like these are handy to have in any household, and these are a very well made set that should not disappoint.
